SDMC wants private firm to collect tax

South Delhi Municipal Corporation has planned to privatize property tax collection in its jurisdiction. Officials say the corporation could not create accounts of all households and therefore failed to achieve the tax collection target.

As per the new scheme, the private concessionaire will get commission only after it achieves 15% more than the target set by the corporation. “The tender was floated after we realized that people hadn’t paid taxes from 2004 and the corporation was losing out on revenue,” said Subhash Arya, leader of the House, South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
